GSTS Wins the National 62nd Independence Day Quiz Competition (SHS)

The Ghana Secondary Technical School, Takoradi Quiz Team for the 62nd Independence Day Quiz on national history have emerged tops after three rounds of intellectual battle.

The quiz was held at Studio 1 of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) this morning 3rd March, 2019 under the banner of the popular TV quiz program; “What Do You Know” with it’s iconic quiz master, Dan Afari Yeboah.

GSTS competed with colleagues from Bishop Herman Senior High, New Edubiase Senior High and Notre Dame Minor Seminary and it was great live national television.

 

GSTS led in the first round and drew with New Edubiase in the second round. Both schools had a total of 13 points from the 1st and 2nd rounds. In the third round however, the Giants opened up with a spectacular 12 points win to put them at the top with 25 points. Bishop Herman came in second with 20 points and New Edubiase Senior High placed third with 16 points followed by Notre Dame Seminary with 12 points to place fourth.

 

This win bestows on GSTS, the ultimate bragging rights as the champions of the 2019 Independence Day Quiz in commemoration of our country’s 62nd Independence Day which will be held in Tamale at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium under the theme “Celebrating Peace and Unity”.

The Takoradi boys started this journey at the inter-zonal level where they laced it up against Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School, St.Mary’s Boys SHS,Takoradi Senior High, Baidoe Bonsu Senior High, Sankor Senior High and Bompeh senior high. They came out first in all their meetings and progressed to the regionals stage.

At the regionals level, they beat Asankragwa Senior High school, St. Augustine’s Senior High, Bogoso; Half-Assini Senior High, Boodi Senior High, Sekondi College and Sefwi Akontombra Senior High finishing first again.

This final match was with the Academy of Christ the King in the Central Region where as the boys put it, we “whipped them”.
